Stash Bee Quilt

My second Stash Bee quilt is finally finished!!
The first one made with Stash Bee Blocks was sent to Moore Oklahoma but I think I'm going to keep this one!! I love it!! I love the bright colors and its scrappy-ness.

Thanks to all the stash bee gals for sending me some great blocks! If you don't see your block in this quilt check the one that was sent to Oklahoma.

Thank you all for making blocks!!

A Flurry Finish

I recently finished my Flurry quilt. I just love it!! The fabric is Flurry by Kate Spain for Moda. I used a disappearing nine patch pattern and it came together quickly but I just now got around to finishing it! (I completed the top a year or more ago)

The back is a little hard to see in this pic but the fabric is tossed with Christmas trees, mittens, holly, candy and stars. It's so cute!

If I remember correctly I used five charm packs for this quilt. Its a super easy pattern :)

Christmas Finishes

Thanks to Kelsey over at Kelsey Sews I was able to have these two quilts finished in time for Christmas gifts. I was wondering how on earth I was going to get everything done that I needed so I contacted her and she got them quilted super quick! Thanks Kelsey!

So up first is the music quilt. I chose these fabrics when my nephews major was something with music. Three degree changes later I decided hes getting the music quilt regardless of his degree.

Next up is the Superman quilt for my other nephew. For him I chose superman because when his was little he would walk around in a suit and only answer to Clark Kent. When the time was right he would go to his bathroom and change from the suit to his superman outfit and cape all while humming the theme song!

I'm so glad I was able to get these completed before Christmas!

Humility Circle of Do Good Stitches

Recently I sadly left my circle of Do Good Stitches to start another circle called Humility. Our quilts will be going to the residents of the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. A friend actually got me involved in this worthwhile cause. For those of you who are unaware the Pine Ridge Reservations houses approximately 18,000 Native Americans. The reservation is stricken with alcoholism and poverty. The unemployment rate on the reservation is 80 percent. One in every four children on the reservation will be born with fetal alcohol syndrome. Many of the homes are nothing more than shacks with no heat or electric. Some may ask why these people would not leave the reservation but we all know how difficult it is to break free from generations of this type of behavior.
I chose the name Humility because I was told in Native American culture to give a blanket shows Humility. Our quilts will go to those in need in all stages of life but the social worker who delivers these is aware that our focus is more toward the children and teens.
Anyhoo, there are ten of us making two blocks each month and you can see our progress in our  Flickr Group.
Here are my November and December Blocks...

If you ever get a hankering to make a quilt for charity I would be glad to send it out to the reservation for you! Just let me know!

Sunshine Quilt Finished

The Sunshine Quilt is finished for the Heal circle of Do God Stitches. I think this will brighten anyone's day!

I had asked each of the  members to make two blocks of their choice using only the colors white and yellow. I just love the heart block!

I sent it to Kelsey to work her long arm magic and she even hid the word love in the quilting!
She does a wonderful job!

I am so pleased with this quilt and I know it will bring joy to the person who receives it.

Pattern Testing

Recently I was able to test out the amazing soon to be released pattern by Freckle Mama.
Here is my version of the quilt...

My quilt was made using the collection Madhuri and you can find it here in my shop.

I love this pattern! Its a great way to showcase large scale prints and its super quick. You can have an entire quilt top in a day! It doesn't get much faster than that!

Watch her blog for more information on when the final pattern is coming out.

Fall Activities - Things to do with your little ones

With the weather getting cooler and the sun setting sooner I have made a jar filled with fall-ish things to do with our son. Now, every night won't have an activity but there are plenty here to keep us occupied several nights a week. I went shopping and have placed all the supplies I will need for this jar in a Rubbermaid tub. That way when he pulls an activity out of the jar we have the supplies handy.
Please feel free to follow me on Pinterest for these and other great ideas. You can also follow on Instagram to see the finished products :)

Pillow Therapy

So last night my husband was whining around that we left all our sofa pillows on the sofa back home in Ohio. Since I was wanting an easy project I made some pillows. The large one measures 20 inches squared while the smaller ones are 14 inches squared.

I love how bright and cheery they are!
Please ignore the olive sofa... I know its a little dated. A new sofa is on my wishlist and since I finished these pillows I think it needs to be bumped up on the list.

I cant choose a favorite. I love them all :)

Sew Modern Swap Three

I was so excited to find out that I was able to participate in the Sew Modern Three Swap. I have been wanting to participate in a swap for a a while now.

When I received my partners info including her likes and dislikes it seemed as though she really wanted a quilted bag. Not just any bag... a weekender bag! I had been wanting to try my hand at these beauties for a while now so I decide to make her one. I purchased a pattern and quickly struggled with the bag.  It turns out zippers and I do not get along.  I think I could handle the bag without the zipper!!

I was so frustrated! I really wanted to give her something awesome.. And not just something awesome but something awesome that she really wanted.

So... since I was struggling so much and quickly running out if time I turned to my friend Nicke, from Kiss Kiss Quilt,  who makes awesomely amazing bags. How pathetic right? Well Nicke being the non judgmental person that she is immediately said she would help me out. She even said she would understand if I didnt want to tell anyone that it was really her that made the bag.... I could never do that!! So.... for all who read let it be known that Nicke made this awesome duffel for my swap partner! I made the final decision on the fabrics but everything else was all her.

But here is the package I sent out...

So I didn't make the bag but I did make the 18" by 18" pillow to go with it.
I love the way it turned out!
I had three family members ask if they could have it.... Umm... No...

My thought was if you are traveling with your new duffel you may need a pillow to rest your head for those long road trips. Then I saw the cute little notebook and what better way to remember your trip than with writing down your memories?

So... Even though I was feeling so low and so inadequate and moped around the house for a couple days...  I got to thinking it was a great learning experience for me now I am determined more than ever to make that weekender bag and make it awesome!! I am excited to get to participate in another swap in the future at some point but this time I will know my limits and if I am not comfortable making a weekender bag I will state that in my swap "application". I know my partner is going to love her bag...  I know I loved it and it was hard to mail it off!

Birthday Quilt

A couple weeks ago my nephew came to me and was discussing his upcoming birthday. He was dropping hints like a pro and told me he really wanted a penguin "blanket" but he didn't know who could make him one. He then finished the conversation by saying "you know... like the one you made me only with penguins instead of robots". Well I just knew I had to make him a quilt for his birthday. I searched and searched online for some pick a penguin by Michael Miller and it arrived giving me less than a week to complete his quilt.

I used the pattern found here at Confessions Of A Fabric Addict. The Pattern is called Noodle Quilt and Designed by Deb at Simple Life Quilts.

It was super fast. It was a great pattern and I will definitely be using it again.

A Cheery Finish

Today I would like to share my latest finish. About 20 years ago long after my grandmother had passed away my grandfather sold his farm house to downsize into a smaller house. At the auction my sister purchased a big box of old fabric scraps and partially finished quilt blocks. She dug them out a while ago and asked me to use the old fabrics as well as some new fabrics to finish some quilts for her, myself and my mom. The fist quilt finished using fabrics and blocks from the box can be seen here.

For this quilt the nine patch blocks were already completed but a little crooked (my grandmother didn't have a rotary cutter). I trimmed all the nine patch blocks to 10 inch squared then added some 10 inch blocks that had a hint of wonkiness.

The quilt measures: Um... I'll update later lol
Pattern: Mine
Fabrics used: Timeless Treasures, Robert Kaufman found here, Henry Glass found here,  Moda Oh Deer! and my grandmas vintage squares.
Quilted by: Me with straight lines 1/4 inch apart.

I just love how bright and cheery it is! Here are a couple up close photos...

Back to Reality

Every year we go down to Gulf Shores Alabama. The sand is white, the water is clear and the views are spectacular.

This year unfortunately I didn't get a lot of pictures. This trip was busier than any other previous vacation. I think that is because our son is older now and we were constantly on the go. We did manage to sneak in some relaxing sunsets...

And then there were some great finds that had washed up on the beach...

Pretty cool eh?
Thanks for stopping in!! Have a great day!!

Dog Night

I found this post that I wrote last year around this time!!! Somehow it was never shared and its too cute not to share so here it is... a year later!!

You are not going to believe this one! My son has been begging me to have "dog night". I first said what is dog night? He proceeds to tell me it would be a night where we all eat and drink like dogs... no forks! Well, the other day I went to the store and loaded up on dog dishes and surprised him with "dog night". My nieces know about it and wanted to come over so they joined in the festivities! I played along and took a bite of my taco salad like a dog then said momma dog is getting a fork! lol

He had sooo much fun... all the kids did. My eleven year old niece looked at me with a big smile and said "I cant believe you did this! You just won mom of the year"! Well, I'm sure there are moms out there who would "dog" this but we had fun! Life's too short! Why not have some fun?!

I wasn't thinking when I bought my dishes... I didn't have enough for dessert so we reverted back to regular bowls (and spoons) for the ice cream :)

Fruit Dip Recipe

What's fruit without dip??

This isn't something you would want to make all the time. It soooo good but it might defeat the purpose of eating fruit lol.

To make it mix one jar of Marshmallow Fluff (13 ounces) and two 8 ounce bricks of cream cheese.

That's it!! How easy?!?!  And super yummy!!

Hope you like it! Thanks for stopping in!!

Stash Bee Quilt

I finally finished my Stash Bee Quilt! I was so lucky to have a great group of gals sending me blocks, I also received a few from outside the group to complete this quilt.  I would like to thank everyone who helped make it!! I think it turned out amazing. I had asked bee members to make wonky star blocks and wonky log cabin blocks.  I had enough blocks to make one quilt for charity and one quilt to keep. This one that I finished first will be going to a new home at some point. I would like to keep it in my community so I thought I would see if a local organization had someone that could use it.

And the back...
 Perfect size!

I absolutely love it. It has four 12.5 inch blocks across and five 12.5 inch blocks down. I added a border and it now measures approximately 52 inches by 64 inches.
I quilted it with straight lines about 1/4 inch apart. After it was washed it became so crinkly and cuddly. I am sure at its new home it will be loved.

Thanks for stopping in and thanks to all that helped!!

Bloggers Quilt Festival #2

The second quilt I chose to add to the Bloggers Quilt Festival hosted by Amy's Creative Side is my Aqua Red Quilt. I am placing this quilt in the Throw Quilt Section.

I made this quilt this past winter and I just love the way the colors pop in the snow.

This quilt measures approximately 53 inches by 62 inches and was made using Michael Miller Aqua Red fabrics.
Quilted by me with random circles.
There was no pattern... I just made four sampler blocks and added borders.

Thanks for stopping in and don't forget to check out all the great quilts during the Bloggers Quilt Festival!!

Busy Moms Recipes

My husband has been gone quite a bit lately but there's plenty of people around to keep me company. For those of you that don't know I live on family land and my parents are next door and my sister is just a pasture away. We eat dinner together all the time... like almost every night. This week has been super busy for my sister so  I have been doing the cooking this week and thought I would share a couple recipes. The first recipe isn't mine but I don't know who to give the credit to... my mom found it floating around facebook some time ago.

Pulled Pork Sandwiches:
one pork roast 2 pounds or so
1/2 cup club soda
1/4 cup brown sugar
bbq sauce
Place roast I crock pot and pour club soda over it. Add brown sugar and mix it around a little. Cook for 8-10 hours, shed and add your favorite bbq sauce. We make and can our own bbq sauce but if I give you the recipe then I'd have to kill you lol. Its my dads prized recipe :)
Shredded Chicken Sandwiches:
One large bag of raw chicken tenderloins (no skins, they come frozen in a bag at Kroger)
1/2 package of stove top (savory herb is what I used)
1 sleeve of ritz crackers
1 can of cream of chicken - 10.5 ounce
1 can of cream of celery - 10.5 ounce
1 can chicken broth - 14.5 ounce
Cook your chicken in boiling water then shred. Crush the crackers and add them along with all the other ingredients to a crockpot mix and let cook for an hour or two. I always put a tablespoon or two of butter in too... call me Paula lol.
It was a hit after softball at my house this week!
