Happy New Year and a Gift Idea

Happy New Year!! I know its a little late but I thought I would share my go to gift idea:
Its a cute gift for families. Give it for an anniversary, housewarming, or hostess gift! I call it breakfast in a bag. I put a jar of homemade pancake mix paired with a jar of homemade maple walnut syrup then I throw in a dozen of my farm fresh eggs. You can always purchase some locally grown eggs from a farmer of get some organic free range eggs in a grocery store. This gift is always a hit!

Homemade pancake mix:
This mix will make two one quart jars.

4 cups all purpose flour
2 cups whole wheat flour
2/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons baking powder
1 tablespoon baking soda

When you make the pancakes whisk together:
1 egg
3/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

Maple Walnut Syrup:
makes four half pints

1 1/2 cups corn syrup
1 cup maple syrup
1 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups walnuts pieces

Combine syrups in saucepan. add sugar, stir until dissolved. Bring to a boil stirring occasionally. Reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes. Add nuts and cook 5 minutes. Ladle into jars and process 10 minutes in boiling water. Make sure the water covers the tops of the jars well so they will seal.

In 2011 I started quilting. I made and finished 3 quilts. I also made 3 more quilt tops that need to be finished. I think for the fist year that's not bad considering I didn't even start until May 2011!
